What Recruiters Know That You Don’t: They Love People Who Stand Out
One thing recruiters know that most people don’t is that they’re going to backchannel your references. What do I mean by that? They’re not going to contact the people that you gave them as references. They may know people within a firm or firms that you’ve worked for; they’re going to contact them to see if they can help you with a reference or help them with a reference or point them toward someone who knows your work. . And it’s not going to be someone that you gave them. And it’s not going to be done with your approval. It’s going to be Backchannel.
You never know who that’s going to be. But it’s important to always leave on good terms so that this way, they don’t have a lot to grumble about.
