What Am I Missing? | Career Angles

Risk Management | Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

I don’t know everything about everything, although I do a great job of presenting myself as well-informed and confident.

I try to remember that whenever I have to make an important decision.

“What am I missing here that could come back to bite me?”

I ask other people that question as I walk through my decisions.

As I talk to executives and discuss decisions they have to make, too infrequently do they ask for advice and support.

“That’s what I’m paying you for!”
“Yes and my advice is to talk to someone who is expert at this and ask them what you’re missing.”

“Help” seems to be a dirty word to too many people. It is something to be avoided.

Nothing could be further from the truth.
