Tough Interview Questions: What Would You Like to Talk About Today?

What Would You Like to Talk About?t

The CEO of a firm said he uses this question because “I’m looking to see how people think and what their motivations are.  What I found is that the best people are the ones who try to get the lay of the land and figure out how to win.”  That’s a complex answer; here is how I translate it.

They want to understand the problems that they are walking into, how the CEO sees them, get a clearer picture of them so they know what they’re going to attack when they join the firm. Thus great questions are the key to answering that question.

You want to ask about the organization, what its goals are, what it’s challenges are, who the strong people are, and what makes them successful.  You want to ask great questions so that they can see that would you are trying to do is to step into an organization, not with hesitancy, but where you can attack the situation from day one.
