What’s your thank-you note policy?
Thank-you notes have become a hot topic over the last few months. Some people say they don’t help job seekers. Others say it can’t hurt and it might even help. We’ll be tackling this topic and thank-you note best practices in the next edition of #GetHired. Let me know your thank-you note policy by taking the poll below and explaining your approach in the comments.
I replied by saying, “Having worked in search for as long as I did and now coaching people, hiring managers sometimes are confused between different people AND lose some of the warm fuzzies they have for someone once the rest of their workday gets the best of them, Sending a thank-you note is an opportunity to re-sell yourself to a hiring manager by reiterating your qualifications for the role, express your interest (usually innecessary, except in passing), and provide a possible tiebreaker between candidates. CAVEAT: Spell and grammar check the note.
