Hi, I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm the head coach for jJobSearchCoachingHQ. com. That's a site with curated information that you can watch, listen to or read, that's going to help you find work more quickly.

This video is the first of what I expect will be many on LinkedIn, about job search, hiring, being more effective in the workplace. And this one is the talk about the big brand a mistake I keep saying time and time again. And that's the notion of being generic.

You use terms like "results driven." Really powerful term. Isn't that just like a million other people on the platform, if not more? What does that do for you as a brand? It brands you as being one of the pack? One of many, and, frankly, terms like results driven, has no meaning. I know when I still did recruiting, I would see terms like this I would go, "oh, God," and just my eyes would glaze over, because most of the rest of what I'd be reading would look like a million other resumes.

Another term. Never use visionary. Whoo, your visionary. Tell me about the vision that you had in the work that you did . What was so unique, that you're allowed to brand yourself as "visionary?" Ooooooh! You aren't visionary and you're not any different than any other person, unless you tell them how you're different.

These terms don't have a real meaning. Drop them. Go for thinking about it first, experiment, but don't use these cliched phrases that everyone tunes out. It just doesn't serve you.

Hope you found this helpful. I'm Jeff Altman. Follow my company, The Big Game Hunter INC. I release content daily there, you'll probably see this over there.
