One of the ways to recession proof your career is getting certifications, whether free or not, that’ll allow you to stand out from those who don’t have certifications. When companies are looking at people, often the tiebreaker is whether or not they’re certified in whatever it the skill is that they’re supposed to know.
I know that worked with a young man I coached in the DC area, a recent grad, no experience. He got himself certified in his skill and was able to find a tech job. You can do much the same thing. Get yourself certified in an area of interest and expertise and move from there.
