I woke up this morning with my lower back bothering me.
It reminded me of how often I used to put up with discomfort at work in the right pane and abuse from coworkers and management. I suffered, rather than deal with the underlying issues.
I made the excuse that my book of business as a recruiter would suffer if I transition to another firm. I promised myself that if I ever wound up in a situation where I think I’d have to worry about that I would make the change.
The post 9/11 world allowed me to do that but I suffered a lot from the time I had the initial impulse to change until I actually did.
I believe that I would’ve been better off I dealt with some of the issues earlier, directly, boldly and not been so frightened. My fear is that in the way.
Where does your fear stand in your way?
Where is your fear getting in the way of your having the professional life you want and what might you have to do differently? What small change might you make to make things just a little easier for you?
At one point, I learned that environments tend to win because they grind you down into conformity.
What can you do a little bit differently and stick with?
