I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter, a career and leadership coach the head
coach for YEAH! And I want to talk with you
why you shouldn't go to work for. JPMorgan Chase and others like them
Can you guess why? No it's not about the 1%. No, it's not about the industry that they're
in per se but it's about something that they're gonna do once you're on board
and that is they are going to tightly control your social media presence
they're going to tightly control any public display that you have with the
result being . . . well, let me just explain.. Let us say you're on LinkedIn.
everyone's on LinkedIn right and you want to talk about what you do for a
living on LinkedIn now I'm not talking about financial consultants I'm talking
about EVERYONE! Like, I talked to someone, it's a technologist, they're not a financial
consultant they're not making claims about how wonderful the institution is
They're just someone who is a technologist and, lo and behold, he or she
has to get it approved by someone before if he can change before he can change
their social media presence. And they want next to nothing there. They want next to
nothing there why because if you say anything they want to well they don't
want you being recruited. That's really what it comes down to.
they don't want you being recruited like you can't talk about the work that
you're doing you can't talk about the industry that you're in you can't say
anything about your work. You're screwed. Why because people get ahead by being
alert to opportunities. Sometimes, they are internally to their organization. More often
than not, they are external. How do people get contacted about
external opportunities pretty simple went in LinkedIn is one of the primary
ways that people are found for new opportunities because LinkedIn sells a
product called LinkedIn Recruiter that allows search firms and companies to
search the entire database of LinkedIn professionals and must be able to
contact you. The "However" is, like a job board, it works with keywords. Before you accept
an offer from JP Morgan Chase and other firms I want you to ask the institution
about any restrictions that are going to exist on your social media presence.
those restrictions can be deadly to your career seriously completely deadly
because no one can find you you're invisible you'll never hear about
opportunities you can't write you can't be a public speaker without approval you
can't do anything. You're hamstrung.. Never go to work for a firm that'll do
that to you. I hope you found this helpful. I'm Jeff Altman. Visit Go exploring in the blog. I've got thousands of posts there

effective manager help you be better in the workplace help you with hiring and
