I missed the moon landing. I was working in a camp in upstate New York without a tv. It probably would not have mattered because I wasn’t really all that interested.
I missed the Woodstock concert, too, even though I was fewer than 10 miles away. I didn’t want to lose my tips for the summer by quitting and, besides the weather forecast was bad.
I missed Viet Nam, too. That one I don’t regret missing.
They were once in a lifetime moments. I missed them.
I did not recognize them as such at the time. It’s pretty easy to do that if you are not living alert.
Being on alert means you are conscious and awake to what is going on around you and within. You benefit with a life and career with greater richness to them.
My life and career have been rich yet I missed what were potentially transformative moment.
Be awake. OK?
