I did an interview last night that's going to be on Job Search Radio (the interview has aired () ) with a talent acquisition director for a firm. What the idea of the show is what firms look for when they hire.
Part of what I wanted to do is understand how his organization selects people to interview. So, yeah, there's the obvious stuff. Does the resume demonstrateaf fit with what they're looking for.
They don't want to have to read between the lines. You need to be.explicit. People argue with me all the time that they have the experience that my client is looking for and I look at their resume and there's nothing there to indicate it.
"Why didn't you call?"
Who has time? Okay, that was one detail.
Another thing that they do that.I thought was really interesting is they have an account with LinkedIn that lets them see the entire LinkedIn database. Fabulous! What they look for. Is how you explain what you've done on your profile to see if it's congruent with what you've written on your resume AND they are looking for endorsements and recommendations on your site.
Now with endorsements, I'm just going to use an example. he didn't use this one, but I think it's a good example because it's something I did recently. A person. sen me a resume for a PHP. job. I look at their profile on LinkedIn. They've got 25 endorsements for Java and two for PHP. What's the message? Obviously, they're not as experienced in PHP as they are in Java.
So, you have to have a profile that's congruent with how you're marketing yourself because recruiters are looking at your profile for a little clues. They're trying to see. whether what you are communicating in your resume is BS or whether it's good. They look at recommendations as a way of seeing what kind of references you have.
It's a really interesting approach to this guy talked about.
