There is a very big and important distinction to the rule that I make a not walking out without notice.

I'm Jeff Altman,The Big Game Hunter, a coach who helps people professionally in
a number of different ways. And here I'm responding to a question I received that
is, "is it okay to quit by never contacting them again, not going to work, not
showing up just, I'm done with you?"
I want to start off by saying there's one exception to what I was saying I'll get to
that later on. No, it's an immature way of doing it. It's an immature way of just not
showing up, not responding. People develop relationships with their co
workers. They like them and they get worried. It becomes a distraction for them
until they realize you just punked out. I'm saying it that way because, except in the case of the exception I'll give, there's no reason I can think of that you just don't
show up. You just don't contact them. You ghost this organization.
The exception is harassment, sexual or physical harassment. If you'll be a victim
of assault, sexual or otherwise, if you've been bullied, you don't show up. You
contact HR directly to say, I'm never coming in again, this is what happened.
I'm never walking in the door. I'm never going to take a call from you. I'm done.
But notice what you did was you messaged someone to say what had
happened, and why you're never showing up again. I would also make the threat in
that email that "if you provide me with a bad reference, if a bad reference ever
comes out of your organization, I going to sue because the only reason I'm not
showing is because I was harassed. That becomes an effective and powerful tool
to affect change.
I don't want you to be in that situation again. However, it's important to protect
your reputation. And by being clear about what happened with an HR organization,
why you walked out, that you have the expectation that they're going to protect
you, and simply provide a great reference for you, that's all you care about is the
great reference, there'll be no lawsuit. That's the way to deal with it.
