How Heavily Do Companies Weigh an Employee Referral?
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Employee referrals? Company’s love employee referrals! Here’s why.
You Don’t Need a Job Description
How heavily does a firm weigh employee referrals? I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I want to speak with you about that today. I’m a coach who worked in search for more than 40 years, filled a boatload of positions like a big boatload of positions and if you’ve been in the field for any period of time, you know that firms like saving money.
One of the ways they save money is employee referrals versus agency fees. What does an employee referral provide that a recruiter doesn’t? And the answer is a testimonial. It’s like going to Facebook, going to LinkedIn and seeing all the check marks and the comments of support for someone.
Now, the proviso is, of course, do you trust the person who’s giving the referral or are they just another imbecile on your staff? If an imbecile, there’s no value whatsoever. However, they may know you and your taste and, thus, they can make a good referral. No matter.
Firms like employee referrals because there’s a testimonial that comes with it and a reduced cost. Some firms will pay an employee referral bonus and, thus, they may like paying $5,000 or $1,000 as a referral bonus versus $20,000, $25,000 or $30,000 as an agency fee. Well, if they come without an agent, no matter.
It’s a cheap referral source and they like that. I’m Jeff Altman. I hope you found this helpful.
