The advice everyone gets is to tailor your resume to the job. But if you don't know exactly how to do it, you're still not going to get results. So I thought I would do a video to explain what you should be doing.

The first thing is, you've got a job description, right? You've got a resume, and you want to line up the points in the job description to your resume. Now, what do I mean? What's most important to the employer? What skills do they want you to have? What functionality do they want you to perform? Then, from there with your resume (you have an existing resume, right), and maybe you use bullet points, or maybe you just use statements about what you've done. Reorder the bullet points and the statements to, to demonstrate . . . let's put it this way. . . push the most relevant experience to the beginning of the relevant section.

You can also add new bullet points to enhance things that you've done that relate to the job. It's really starts off with that simplicity. Then, from there, you may want to replace certain figures or facts or stories or examples in a way that lets the interviewer, hiring team, the hiring manager, spot right away how you fit the role.

Remember, even if you're networking to get the interview, you're in a situation where you're competing with other people. And if you've been networking and introduced by someone, the resume's there to confirm that what the hiring manager or the third party screener. . . Let me restate that--the screener has been told about you, you want to make sure your resume demonstrates the fit.

So that's how you do it. It's not that hard. But, again, emphasize the things that they care about, not just simply what you've done, but what you've done that matters to them.
