jeff alton the big game hunter and
you know relocation at these times has
become complicated
some people are under water in their
some people are dealing with pandemic
related issues and they have to reload
for a job how do you bring this up when
maybe you don't have the cash to buy the
new place in the new location and you're
underwater where you are
hope you found this helpful hope this is
not your set of circumstances but if it
this show is for you and we'll be back
in just one moment whenever i talk about
flex jobs i want to do the old music
from batman
flex jobs okay i'll spare you the
singing and just say flex jobs is a site
with flexible employment opportunities
throughout the united states
you know it's a paid service
but it's a very good service for lots of
different types of work so use the link
in the show notes check out flex jobs
make your own decision about its value
to you i think you will find it very
helpful if you're looking for flexible
employment and we'll be back in just one
moment how do you handle relocation
discussions during the pandemic such as
the sale and purchase of a home
especially when the sale might involve a
loss but still having to pay full price
for a new home and such
let's work with the assumption i'm going
to actually let me deal with this on
multiple levels
if you're a staff level individual
you're out of luck
you know they're going to say this is
your problem and this is your concern
not ours they're not going to take on
responsibility for you buying a home
just because you lost money on the
existing one
they'll they'll basically dismiss this
out of hand now that may impact your
ability to make a decision to join and
that's probably a good thing because
that may put enough stress on them to
change their mind and come up with a few
thousand dollars as a sign-on bonus to
help ameliorate some of the issues with
the home sale that's going to cause a
but in terms of buying the new home you
may try and negotiate and this is true
for very senior people as well uh try to
moving cost closing costs all sorts of
the costs related
to the new place
so that
you're not spending a lot out of pocket
while moving
to the new job
at the point that the offer is made
that's when you raise this subject
yeah i'm sure they've touched on this
before they've spoken about some of
their policies
you can ask about
all the details of those policies in
writing so this way there's no confusion
and just move on from there if it
doesn't work it doesn't work you have to
make a choice whether it's worth it to
you to join this company
under these circumstances
so that's today's show i hope you found
it helpful and if you did here are a few
things i can do to help you with your
job search beyond simply being your
first of all i've got a new book out
