EP 1923 A  great question from a coaching client that affects many of you!

Read Full Transcript

Today's question or this question comes from someone that I coach, and it's a wonderful question no one's ever posed to me before. It's easy when you're applying for a job and you're sending one resume to one company. But what about if there are several positions open at the same firm and are actually qualified for them? You want to personalize the resume. What do you do?
Now, I thought about it for a minute and the answer is actually pretty simple. It involves making a longer resume. What you need to do is put everything into one resume. So, every piece of relevant information has to go into that document. But, then, from there, you want to emphasize different aspects. So, you move up information that's relevant for that particular role. Maybe you bold it; maybe you want to italicize it.
Take a look at the document. After you've done that editing to see whether it looks garish, or whether it just highlights it. And then you're able to upload it.
You also have to make sure your LinkedIn profile is congruent with what you're saying in the resume. But, fundamentally, what you're doing is expanding your resume, beefing it up. You're making it complete with more information so that, in this way, an employer can see you've done a host of different things that's going to help them find work.
