hiring more effectively managing and leading
workplace-related issues, executive coaching–
a whole host of things and here i answer a question from someone who wants to
know, “How do employers get an idea of how long
someone’s going to stay in a job easy now it’s false
it’s all working with the assumption or an assumption but this is how they
think. Like with a mutual fund but the
opposite, past performance, they think, does
indicate future behavior. So, for example, you went to a great
school they believe you’re bred for success
you work for pedigree corporations they think you’re above
average after all you’re not working for some firm no one’s ever heard the name
of before. You’re working for (fill in the blank). Same thing in this
respect they look at your past behavior and they
make assumptions about your future conduct
now the fact that there might have been a recession that caused you to leave
your job that your boss was a maniac that the
project you were working on got cancelled
they don’t ask about that they look at the job history and they go
six months here three months there four months there
and they assume that you’re a job hopper so this is how they do it it’s wrong
You know, they could send an email to you asking for clarification, for why the
frequent job changes, is to allow you a chance to
to elaborate. And you can do that in the resume, as
well. Next to each organization left because
of a position being eliminated along with 700 others
“left because (fill in the blank) . . . Mature reasons. We never want to insult a
former manager we never want to be critical we just
want to present facts.
