Hi! I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter and you are listening to . . . TA DA . . .  The No BS Coaching Advice Podcast. I like to spend time regularly talking with you about something related to life, the universe and everything because I don't believe it needs to be as hard as it seems for so many of you.

, And today's show is precipitated by a situation with my son. He's a teenager. He's entitled to make mistakes, and he made one. He was supposed to reimburse me for something and he didn't and rather than come to tell me that he hadn't and that when he couldn't reimburse me, he tried to hide and, then, in an act of bad tactics, he yelled at me for the fact that he thought I would lecture him (I wasn't lecturing him. I just told him, you know, if you have an issue, you come to me, just like you would with a bank, just like you would with a friend). You can't pay something back, you tell them. They may be upset but that's their stuff. I had no intention of being upset. Although I felt frustrated, I was as calm as I am right now.

And folks, I'm gonna let you in on a secret. A lot of you are hiding just like he is and a lot of you make mistakes--DUH! Welcome to life. But hiding doesn't really work. Hiding just basically causes people to question your integrity. Hiding is an Interesting form of lying. Now, I'm not going to get into this with a teenager. They just don't often have the tools in the tool belt to do it any differently.

But as an adult, you do and you can make a different choice than the one that you've made up until this point. Instead of hiding, instead of procrastinating, you can deal with it. You do have the tools in your repertoire.

I will ask you this. What's going to happen?  What really will happen if you take this on directly and speak with the person involved and say, "Sorry, but I can't follow through right now. I apologize. It will take me two weeks. I'll get this cleaned up."

Now as long as we're not dealing with some version of the illegal crime syndicate, most people will be upset but then you have to back up your words with deed and not only provide them with, not only an apology, I think it's a nice touch if they are gifted in some way afterwards.

Again, life doesn't have to be as hard as you make it out to be and this simple approach to doing things differently, instead of hiding, you can deal with it directly, look someone's square in the eye and say, " I messed up. I can't fall through on this right now. I need another two weeks, I need another week, need another month. I'll be back with you. I will make payment," will go a long way toward repairing any sort of damage that comes about as a result of this event.

And that's this show. I hope you found it helpful. If you do, well, I'll simply say, reach out to me. I'd love to coach you. If you need support, connect with me on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/TheBigGameHunter. Mention that you listen to the show. I love hearing from folks who are listening to this show or my other ones and I'll just simply say if you'd like me to help just ask me after we're connected for coaching advice and we'll schedule a time to speak and I look forward to helping you.
