The scenario is you have 3 cartons of eggs, they are all incorrectly marked. One is marked being eggs, one is marked small eggs, and one is marked mixed eggs. How many boxes of eggs do you need to open to figure out which is which?
The 1st time I heard this question years ago, I thought to myself, “You have to open two,” and then I paused and went, “NO!!” You only need to open one. Let me show you how.
Let’s say, you open up a box of eggs that is marked as mixed. In fact, there are small eggs in there. Now, you are left with 2 boxes of eggs that you know are marked incorrectly, right? You should know which of the eggs is in which box because they are marked incorrectly. Thus, the one marked mixed might have small ones.
When all is said and done, all you have to do is open up one box of eggs to be able to figure out this little. Then, you can say to them, “can I show you this? It Is kind of hard to explain.” The idea is very simple. Whatever you open up, the other 2 boxes are also marked incorrectly so you know what they have.
