Getting Unstuck

Moving Ahead

You know, I shared something in a Facebook group that I hosted. The group that was called Career Angles. The group basically focuses around the subject of work. What I shared was a Stuckquestion from someone who was a banker, and she asked the question . . . actually, I’m not sure if it’s a she “What are some recommendations for someone who’s hit a plateau in their job and has lost their drive?”

Now, I think this is more than just simply in the workplace. I think many of us, many people, in general, start to get frustrated and they give up. That’s really what a plateau is. You’ve gotten to a point where you’ve attained as much as has come easily and naturally. Now, you’ve quit. Most people don’t want to hear that. But that is a fact. You’ve given up and this question is the first signal that there’s an opportunity to transcend that.

Now, this is an emotional question, not one about specific facts or tactics because we don’t have those. The issues around, you know, I’ve plateaued. What do I do to get going again?

The answer is . . . get going again because you need to get into motion. When I think of a plateau, or I think of someone being stuck, stuck is a place (and I put my arms out here) where you’re being held in spaces between two points. Ultimately, and sometimes it’s more but the visual is two points. Sometimes what you need to do is start taking action and getting some activity going and if you’re doing the same things over and over again to get different results, well, there’s one of your issues. You’ve got to do something different. If you’ve been frozen with uncertainty about what exactly to do, well, you will discover that if you pick one thing to change, you will start getting going because if it was right, great! You start getting off the pot; if it wasn’t right, you go to a different solution, you see, most people wait for the perfect answer and they paralyze themselves looking for perfection when the reality is, once you get into motion, you start to figure things out because you’re experimenting and trying to figure out, “is this is this one better?”

Give each one a little bit of time before you cut them off or declare the winner. But what you gotta do is get going. . .  Get into motion. It’s why, so often I and my no BS job search advice podcast and segue into the actual show segue from the intro into the into the show. I’ll say, well, “Let’s git going because I want us to get into motion, taking action and not just simply sitting there.
