Customize Your Cover Letter
“Your cover letter is another important part of your application, as it gives you the chance to show your interest, motivation, and personality. To make your cover letter stand out for each job, you should focus on the content and tone that are most suitable and persuasive for the employer and role. Start by addressing the letter to a specific person or using a generic salutation. Then write an opening paragraph that captures the employer’s attention and clearly states your objective. Demonstrate why you are interested in the role and company, and how you can contribute to their success. Highlight your relevant skills and accomplishments, providing specific examples and stories. Finally, close the letter with a call to action such as requesting an interview or inviting them to contact you.
I commented limited to 750 characters:
“If you are going to apply through an ATS, make page one of your resume the cover letter. After the initial introductory paragraph, list the requirements and functionality they want flush left and flush right and how recently you have used that skill or done that function. Omit anything you haven’t done. This allows the system to see the terms it wants on page 1 and see more use of the terms on pages 2 and 3. It gives the system you have a lot of experience doing the work and using the skills sought and gives you a greater chance of being chosen for an interview.”
