Another Day in Paradox | The No BS Coaching Advice Podcast
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
EP 152. Ahhh! Another day in paradox, not paradise. Confirmed by a paradox from Neil Young and more.
Welcome to another day in paradox. But you thought I was going to say paradise. But today’s actually another day in paradox. And I say it that way because there’s so much that contradicts one another along the way. Like, if you listen to some of the things that people say, you know, they’re so contradictory. That’s what a paradox is all about.
Ever hear someone described someone as a wise fool, or I am nobody? What a pity. Youth must be wasted on the young or I could resist anything but temptation.
There’s so many things that people say that contradict one another. I just find that amazing. And I hope you take this as a way of starting off your day with a certain amount of pleasure and a certain amount of enjoyment.
SEGMENT 2. I was listening to an interview that Conan O’Brien did with Neil Young, the rock guitarist and performer. They had an interesting conversation about a time where Neil Young was on Saturday Night Live and performed “Keep on Rockin The Free World.” You can find it on Vimeo. Do a Google search for his great performance.
And there was something that, you know, O’Brien was being a fan and Young was being the performer. And there was an interesting line that came through and it translates into, it doesn’t sting so much, if someone doesn’t like it, if you go into it, basically not really caring what other people think, you’re performing for yourself. And you understand that you’re at your best when you’re trying to give things that allow you to feel proud of what you do.
So I ask you the question– Do you really care what other people think? If so, I understand. You’ve got a boss you’ve got to please. But is it possible that they could get more from you, that you could be a million times better, if, instead, you lived up to your rep, and you just didn’t act as though you cared so much about their thinking? Remember, you live up to it. You are excellent right now. Live up to that. Don’t worry about what other people think. Worry about what you think.
SEGMENT 3. You’re thinking about the show today or other things and change you want to make in your life and the things that you do. I don’t want you to setting goals for yourself. Goals feel like so much work, right? It’s just another thing on the to do list of things that you need to accomplish. I want you to ask yourself the question, “what’s possible now? What can I do now to move the needle forward in some way toward the objective that I have?”
You want to lose five pounds? You want to lose 50 pounds? What’s possible now? What can you do now to move yourself toward that goal?
