EP 1552 There are many mistakes people can make when negotiating.  To me, this is the big one.

I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm the head coach for JobSearchCoachingHQ.com and today's video talks about a big mistake, I think is the biggest mistake, job hunters make when comes time to talking about money, when they have the offer. And they certainly think of themselves, "I've got the offer!!!" Then they forget to negotiate.

They just don't negotiate. Maybe you've done this before and you get the offer and you're just so excited and so overwhelmed that you think to yourself, "Yippee! I'm going to take it!" Why don't you negotiate a little bit?

If you watch my video, "The Easiest Way to Negotiate a Higher Salary for Yourself," there's a suggestion is about a very simple in the very gentle way to negotiate that translates into a slight delay and then asking them if they can do "a touch better." If you try that approach, you may get the money up a few dollars . . . Let's say you get it increased by $5000, for the sake of argument.

In 5 years time, is $25,000 before you gotten any raises. With raises, it may be more like $26,000. Take out taxes it may be an additional $17-$19,000 during that period of time, depending upon your tax bracket and state that you ran. Don't you want that?

Don't you realize that for many of you all your raises at this firm and the next firm are going to be based upon the higher salary that you're receiving because that's a firm's conduct themselves (NOTE: This is no longer true in cities and states that prohibit asking questions about your salary). Consider that all you have to do is a little bit of negotiating, even if you are acting like a suggestion that video.

"Wow! I'm so happy! I'm so happy! Let me ask you a question. Is it possible that you could do a touch better."

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'a touch better.' This is a pretty good offer!"

""Yes. But I was wondering whether you could do $10,000 better or maybe $5000 better?"If they say no, obviously, you can still accept the offer.

Asking for a little bit more when you're interviewing for a firm, what you're trying to do is take care of yourself and your family. What's the big deal?

So, I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. If you're interested in my coaching you, visit www.TheBigGameHunter.us. There is a tab on the top that will reference how to order time with me.
