I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a career leadership coach, a former executive recruiter, the head coach for JobSearchCoachingHQ.com.
I want to talk with those of you who are fairly senior about how at this time of year, every August, it's an important time of year if you're in job search mode. Why? for those of you who've been involved with the budgeting process, you know that final budgets get solidified in October, and that, sometimes, you can be in a situation where a former manager, a former boss, someone that you've worked with in the past, can write you into their new budget.

Remember, write you into the new budget.

They have an idea in mind and they can create a spot for you in that budget that's going to help you land effortlessly. Isn't that a lot easier than going on hundreds of interviews, networking with thousands of people to finally get something in January?
Maybe the req starts in January. Maybe the approval comes in September and you know that you're in there and you'll be able to start in January. However it's done, this is the time to really kick it up so that, in this way, your friends have time to lay the foundation for you for landing in the new role. You have time to have the conversations with them, or with multiple versions of them and have choices available to you.
Remember, budgets gets solidified. Suddenly, suddenly, they come into effect. You may have to interview but you know that there's a req opening up. Wouldn't that be a lot easier for you?
