One of the mistakes I see people make time and again is they become extremely rigid and fixed on the only kind of job that they’re going to consider. I'm not suggesting that you, as a Director, take a coding job. You’re not qualified for it anymore. It wouldn’t interest you. It doesn't really leverage your experience well.

But, one of the mistakes people make is getting focused in, for example, on industry sector.

“I only want to work in banking. I only want to work in financial services. I only want to work in healthcare . . . And sometimes, number one, there is a related industry to yours that will value your skills and experiences at an even higher level.

I’m not going to invite you to take a job that is going to bore you to tears. But to refuse to even go out on the interview is a mistake because you don't know what you don't know.

At the end of the day, you may choose a particular job in a particular industry. Fine. I’ve got no issue with that. But to closed doors without exploring what's behind them can be mistake.

So, again, interviewing is like dating and you may have the idea that you like someone tall, dark and handsome or blond or whatever it is and, suddenly, discover that the love of your life is very different than that. Open yourself up to other possibilities and, at the end of the day, if you go back to tall dark and handsome or the blond so be it. It's fine., Go out on some dates. You may be surprised
