Many years ago, I was part of creating a local branch of a non-profit. After the first year, everyone looked to me to step into leadership . . . but I was about to start grad school after a 25+ year gap from being in school and also had a busy career, too. I couldn’t do it.

Making space for someone else to step in and do a great job, they would have waited their turn had I not stepped aside.

Several years later, I took a voluntary sabbatical from an organization because I was worn and knew I needed a break. Doing that benefited me and also the team.

I have many stories in my life of times where I made space for possibilities for me and someone to step up into new and exciting circumstances.

It benefited both me and others.

Make space and ask that others to make space. Everyone can win.
