Criticism | Career Angles

In the US, we seem to live in a culture where criticism receives positive recognition from our “tribe” of friends and relations. It is rewarded with “Likes” and “thumbs up” and other forms of praise while, all the while, the feeding frenzy of the attack feeds on itself.

The same thing can happen at work where “watercooler conversation,” “Slack attacks,” email strings start to circulate as fact.

Criticism is rarely a problem. The violence in the feeding frenzy is.

Would it hurt you to have a private discussion, instead of the group response? Is it possible something you believe as fact may actually an opinion discerned from interpretation?

Slow down, slugger and take the time to investigate rather than leap to conclusions both professionally AND personally. You’ll keep your anger and blood pressure more in check.
